Asakusa

Welcome to Asakusa, the oldest geisha district in Tokyo where ancient and modern traditions meet! Asakusa’s origin dates back some 1400 years to the Asuka period. It is a must-visit destination for anyone wanting to experience the authentic charm of Tokyo's 'shitamachi' or 'low city.'

At the heart of Asakusa is Sensoji Temple, a magnificent Buddhist Temple which traces its roots back to the 7th century.  Step into the iconic Kaminarimon, also known as the Thunder Gate, and embark on the 250 meters time travel journey through Nakamise, the shopping street that leads to the oldest Temple in Tokyo. This historic shopping street is lined with quaint shops offering a wide array of souvenirs, traditional Japanese snacks, and delectable sweets.

Asakusa is one of the oldest geisha districts in Tokyo. The city still has 45 active working geishas retaining the rich cultural heritage of Japan’s distant past. You can enhance your experience with a guided rickshaw tour, teleporting you to the Meiji Restoration era.  Asakusa has many festivals to celebrate its rich cultural history and traditions reminiscent of its past.
